Viktoriia Poliova: “Ars Moriendi, 18 Songs for an Actor Who Can Sing”

Viktoriia Poliova is a well-known contemporary Ukrainian composer. Her works have been heard at such venues as Beethoven Festival in Bonn (Germany), the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival (Austria), Yuri Bashmet Festival in Minsk (Belarus), Valery Gergiev Easter Festival in Moscow, the “Chamber Music Connects the World (Kronberg, Germany)” festival and Dresden Music Festival, as well as in the halls of both Berlin and Cologne Philharmonics (Germany) and many others.

At the concert taking place at the Master Klass House of Culture and Education will be presented a new composition by Viktoriia Poliova, entitled “Ars Moriendi” (1982-2012) for voice, piano and soundtrack (“18 Songs for an Actor Who Can Sing”).

“Ars Moriendi” (“The Art of Dying”) is reflections on death in poems by K. Issa, W. Shakespeare, E. Shvarts, E. Dickinson, R.M. Rilke, D. Meyrink, O. Viner, I. Brodsky, I. Gubarenko, Y. Arkhangelskaya and J.Galsworthy.

“Ars Moriendi” is the title of the two Latin texts (published around 1415 and 1450), telling of the procedures prior to the righteous death and explaining how to “die well” according to Christian precepts of the late Middle Ages.

The concert will take place on the Master Klass House of Culture and Education rooftop.
